Post-Holiday Catch Up

So the holidays have come and gone, and finally there is time to sort and upload pictures of my culinary and entertaining successes. Here you have it!

And we hosted Christmas at our house this year, which was a first for me. More successes!
My dad's beagle (name: Beagle) especially enjoyed the festivities. He got treats and had fun getting lost in the wrapping paper!

Oh yes, and we had a blizzard of mass proportions. Andy was at his overnight job, and I was off work (thankfully), so it was up to me to hold down the fort. The neighbors helped me plow our parking space which I was very thankful for, and in total, we had about 17 inches of snow.

Even growing up in Alaska, I don't remember a time being litterally "snowed in" to our house. I'm sure it happened, but my parents took care of the doorways and sidewalks before we went outside. This was my first big girl snowstorm, where I had to take care of it all by myself. I kept thinking what a great workout my arms were getting.

New Season: CHRISTMAS!

I am a firm believer that anytime after Halloween is fair game for Christmas decorating. Since I spent last Sunday night hearing about how scary my cob-webbed house was from trick-or-treaters, I'm pretty sure the Christmas trees are getting themselves ready for their yearly display.

Next week I'll put them both up, the matchy one in the living room, and the colorful one in the basement. I have to find a new place to hang the mistletoe, I want pine garland on the mantle, and I have to hang the stockings.

Outside, I want to put net lights over our shrubs in front (although we have to figure out how to plug them in...) and I have a wreath that I might put up, and also some pine garland that will go unlit around the front door.

I should also whip up a new tree skirt for the basement, since the only one I have will go on the upstairs tree. I'm thinking some felt is in order, and I can applique felt designs on it, and add some sequins and beads? I might be crazy!

Here is my inspiration:

A menagerie of Christmas fun!

Notice the squirrels? Cute!
